Located in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal and serving as the commercial capital of North Bengal, Siliguri is a General (unreserved) assembly seat falling under the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has a remarkable political history Asok Bhattacharya of CPI(M) is one of the most dominant figures in Siliguri’s electoral history, winning five consecutive elections from 1991 to 2006 and serving as Mayor of Siliguri.
