After a lone INC win in 1972, the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP/PWPI) dominated Alibag from 1978 to 2014 a remarkable 36-year run through Datta Patil, Dattatrey Narayan Patil, Meenakshi Prabhakar Patil, and Subhash Panditshet Patil.

Shiv Sena (SHS) candidate Mahendra Hari Dalvi won the Alibag MLA seat with 1,13,599 votes his second consecutive victory defeating Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWPI) candidate Chitralekha Nrupal Patil Alias Chiutai who secured 84,034 votes. Independent candidate Dilip Vitthal Bhoir Alias Chotamshet (a BJP rebel) also contested. The winning margin in Alibag 2024 was 29,565 votes.
