The constituency is entirely urban (100% as per 2011 census), covering the densely populated and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods of Byculla, Mazgaon, Nagpada, and Madanpura. Established in 1957, Byculla has an unusually layered electoral history: the Communist Party of India (CPI) was a dominant force in the constituency’s early decades reflecting its mill-worker and trade-union base, before the seat was dissolved in the 1977 delimitation and its area absorbed into the Chinchpokli and Nagpada constituencies for three decades.

Byculla was reconstituted in the 2008 delimitation, and since 2009 the seat has swung across Congress, AIMIM, Shiv Sena, and finally Shiv Sena (UBT), whose Manoj Jamsutkar won in 2024 by a decisive 31,361 votes. Below is the complete Byculla vidhan sabha election history with year-wise results, vote counts, winning margins, and voter turnout data.
